YMV Origins - 1971
Yale Men’s Volleyball started at Yale in 1971 as a club sport receiving an annual budget of 500 dollars and several seasons-old Yale basketball shorts. The team was in the Eastern Collegiate Volleyball League, which incuded Princeton, Penn State,West Point, and Springfield College, among others. In the Spring of 1972, the squad won both the New England Championships and the East Coast Championships. Team members included Ken Lindt (OH), Shawn Rosenberg (OH, captain), Mike Palm (S), and Ed Lowry.

YMV Varsity Status - 1974
The 1974-75 season is one of the most exciting in the history of Yale Men’s Volleyball. This year the Yale Men’s Volleyball Team advanced all the way to the NCAA Final Four at UCLA. They lost to UC Sata Barbara in the National Semi-Finals, then played Ohio State for third place. Players included Mike Sholtz and Andy Fishburn (who later transferred to Stanford and was at one point the #1 ranked doubles beach player in the world).
